Reliable site data for planning and early design

Contour and feature surveys provide a precise representation of a site’s existing conditions. They capture all visible natural and built features, levels, and site constraints, forming the base plan for design and planning, enabling architects, builders and developers to maximise land potential and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Our surveys typically include:

  • Ground levels and contours – also known as topographic survey
  • Building footprints and floor levels
  • Fences, walls, retaining and boundary details
  • Driveways, crossovers, kerbs and verge features
  • Visible utilities: drainage, sewer, water, power, gas and comms
  • Trees and vegetation
  • Easements and other site constraints

Delivered in CAD (DWG), PDF and other required formats.

When this survey is required

Contour and feature surveys are a critical early step in many development and construction projects. They are commonly required for:

  • Residential and commercial planning approvals
  • Subdivision design and lodgement (including WAPC submissions)
  • Architectural and landscape design
  • Civil engineering design
  • Building additions and modifications
  • Identifying site constraints and opportunities

A project’s success relies on starting with accurate spatial information.

Integrated Capability Across Site Investigation and Construction

Alongside feature and contour surveys, we provide utility locating, underground services mapping and concrete scanning to help identify site constraints early. We also support projects during construction with set-out, as built and engineering survey services.

These services can be coordinated on the same site to reduce delays and limit the need for multiple providers.

Why Land Surveys?

Builders, designers and contractors work with us because we provide:

  • Accurate measurements and dependable data
  • Turnaround times that support project and planning schedules
  • Clear survey plans suitable for council and engineering requirements
  • Practical guidance on survey scope and site constraints
  • ISO certified Quality (9001) and Safety (45001)
  • National capability with local teams across Australia
  • Scalable support with also utility mapping and full construction surveying capabilities

Yes. A topographic survey delivers the same information as a feature and contour survey. Both map:

  • The physical shape of the land through contours
  • The natural and man-made features that exist on or near the property

Different names, same detailed and essential output for planning and engineering.

Our surveys include the information needed for design development and authority submissions. In addition to standard feature and contour detail, plans typically include:

  • Ground and terrain levels referenced to AHD or an arbitrary datum
  • Contour intervals, usually at 0.5 m or as specified by the project team

The level of detail can be adjusted to suit architectural or engineering requirements, planning or utility authority conditions, and site complexity. This may include closer contour spacing, more extensive feature pick-up, additional service information or levels on adjacent properties.

If your project requires higher detail such as 3D surfaces, extended boundary ties or additional service locations, we can include this in the survey brief.

Deliverables are tailored to client and authority requirements, with options including:

  • AutoCAD DWG files (2D or 3D)
  • PDF plans for fast distribution
  • Water and sewer infrastructure plans
  • Cadastral detail and property boundary information

Turnaround depends on site size, access and complexity. We can advise on availability and scheduling when you request a quote.

Share your project details, our team is ready to assist.
