The Victorian Government is widening and upgrading the Monash Freeway to ease congestion and improve traffic flow and have awarded the project contract to Fulton Hogan with construction due to begin in September.

The Monash Freeway Upgrade is an important part of the $5.5 billion Western Distributor Project, a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban. The network-wide solution will increase safety and reliability by streamlining the M1 from Geelong to Pakenham.  The upgrade involves adding around 30 kilometres of extra traffic lanes, as well as installing smart roadway technology such as ramp signals, Lane Use Management Signs (LUMS) and Automatic Incident Detection (AID).

The extra lane capacity will be added within the existing road reserve. Work includes:

  • Widening from four to five lanes in each direction between EastLink Interchange and South Gippsland Freeway.
  • Widening from two to three lanes in each direction from South Gippsland Freeway to Clyde Road in Berwick.

In preparation the project team are offering you a complimentary property inspection.

Due to the size and nature of the project it is important to inspect buildings within a particular distance from the worksite.  The recorded condition survey will be the reference should the property later be considered to have experienced any adverse effects from the construction works.

The survey involves inspecting and taking photographs of the inside and outside of your building(s). It may take up to an hour to complete, depending on the size and condition of your property.

The project team has engaged an independent specialist, Land Surveys, to undertake these surveys. A qualified Land Surveys representative will attend your property and will carry identification at all times. You are encouraged to check it before allowing access to the property.

Following the inspection, owners will receive a free copy of the inspection report, including photographs. The project team will also receive a copy of the report as a reference document.

Please note that only the property owner is authorised to provide permission to carry out a property condition survey. If you are not the property owner, please forward the invitation to them or your property agent as soon as possible.
